Travel & Salad...Yes, they work together!

If you know me, you know I love travel and summer travel is some of the best! My next love, eating al fresco; I guess becoming a nutritionist was bound to happen.

Today, I take off for a two week trip with my girls we have planned a little adventure, some personal growth topped off with a serving of mid-western hospitality.

My Saturday Summer Salad choice is a classic Nicoise Salad.pdf . This salad can be found in just about every country I've traveled, (56 and counting to date) and there are many versions and I thought it would make a good choice for todays' recipe.

The benefits of this classic salad are long and the variations are endless! So let your creativity flow and embrace the flavors of the places where you travel lead the way!

Nicoise salad is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids: A traditional Nicoise salad typically contains tuna, a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are essential for heart health, brain function, and reducing inflammation.

Packed with protein from a lean tuna, hard-boiled eggs, and sometimes even anchovies, Nicoise salad can help you feel full and satisfied after eating. Protein is also important for building and repairing muscle tissue.

The various ingredients in a Nicoise salad contribute a variety of vitamins and minerals to your diet. For example, tomatoes are a good source of vitamin C and lycopene, while olives are a good source of healthy fats and vitamin E.

Nicoise salad is a good source of fiber from the vegetables and legumes that are typically included. NIH published studies have foud that the average American consumes half the daily fiber that is recommended! That's a huge deficit! Fiber helps to promote gut health, regulate blood sugar levels, and keep you feeling full.

  • Reduces stress: Travel can be a great way to escape the daily grind and relax. It can also help to improve your mood and overall well-being. Spending time in nature, trying new activities, and meeting new people can all help to reduce stress levels.

Boosts your creativity: Travel can be a great way to spark your creativity. Seeing new things and experiencing new cultures can help you to think outside the box and come up with new ideas.
